Hey could you guys suggest what are the cellular data related restrictions that are useful if applied on iphones and ipads? Specifically I am looking to limit cellular data usage on vpp apps installed via blueprint using apple configurator.

Hello @claudia, thank you for reaching out to us!

Using either Hexnode UEM or Blueprints, you can configure various cellular data-related restrictions on your iOS devices. Unfortunately, you cannot configure app-wise cellular data limit using either option as of now. We will be rolling out cellular data usage management for iOS devices as soon as possible. Make sure to stay tuned for more updates!

In the meantime, provided below are restrictions you can enable/disable as per your requirement using Hexnode:

  • Apps can modify cellular data usage (Supervised iOS 7.0+)
  • Modify cellular plan settings (Supervised iOS 11.0+)
  • eSIM Modification (Supervised iOS 12.1+)

Additionally, you can control cellular data usage and roaming data usage by the managed apps by configuring Network usage rules.

  1. Under the iOS tab, navigate to Network usage rules and add a new network usage rule.
  2. Here you can disable Cellular data usage to restrict mobile data usage by the managed apps. You can also disable Data usage on roaming to restrict mobile data usage while roaming by the managed apps.

Alternatively, restrictions given below can be enabled/disabled under restrictions within configuration profiles while creating blueprints:

  • Allow modifying cellular data app settings (Supervised devices)
  • Allow modifying cellular plan settings (Supervised devices)
  • Allow modifying eSIM settings (Supervised devices)

Try these restrictions out, and let me know what worked best for you!
