Hexnode UEM now supports Windows pre-approved enrollment. The feature lets IT teams add authorized Windows devices to the Hexnode UEM portal before users begin enrollment. Admins can prepare devices for management in advance and control which Windows devices are allowed to enroll.
What’s New in Windows Pre-Approved Enrollment?
Pre-approved enrollment now supports Windows devices in Hexnode UEM. Read the Windows pre-approved enrollment announcement for the release details.
IT admins can import Windows device details into the Hexnode UEM portal before users begin enrollment. They can also group approved devices and assign policies, apps, and configurations in advance.
Admins can assign policies, apps and configurations in advance, while assigned policies and configurations take effect when the device enrolls.
Why Pre-Approving Windows Devices Simplifies Onboarding
In workflows where Windows devices are configured only after user enrollment begins, IT may need to apply required settings and complete device setup after deployment.
Windows pre-approved enrollment moves that preparation earlier. Admins can stage authorized devices before deployment, so assigned policies take effect when each device enrolls in Hexnode UEM.
Teams can also enforce the Pre-approved Devices only enrollment restriction. This prevents unauthorized or personal Windows devices from joining the managed fleet.
Key Benefits for IT Teams
Pre-approved enrollment for Windows gives IT teams three practical advantages:
- Instant Management – Group Windows devices and assign policies, apps and configurations before enrollment. Assigned policies and configurations take effect when the device enrolls.
- Enhanced Security Restrictions – Apply Pre-approved Devices only to prevent unauthorized or personal Windows devices from enrolling.
- Bulk Import via CSV – Upload a single CSV file to import hundreds of Windows devices at once, reducing repetitive device-by-device preparation.
Together, these capabilities help IT teams create a more controlled and standardized Windows onboarding workflow.

How Windows Pre-Approved Enrollment Works in Practice
Consider an IT team preparing a large batch of new Windows laptops for employees.
Instead of waiting for each laptop to reach its user before beginning configuration, admins can import the approved device list into Hexnode UEM beforehand. They can then organize devices and prepare the required policies, apps and configurations.
When users enroll their assigned Windows devices, the pre-assigned policies and configurations are automatically associated with them. At the same time, the Pre-approved Devices only restriction can block devices that were not authorized in advance.
How to Set Up Windows Pre-Approved Enrollment
To configure Windows pre-approved enrollment in Hexnode UEM:
- Prepare a CSV file containing the three mandatory fields: Serial Number, Manufacturer Name and Model Name.
- Navigate to Enroll > All Enrollments > Enterprise > Pre-approve in the Hexnode UEM portal.
- Upload the CSV file containing your Windows device list.
- Review the imported device information.
Optionally, enable Pre-approved Devices only under enrollment restrictions to prevent unapproved devices from enrolling.
For CSV formatting requirements and the complete workflow, see the pre-approved enrollment help documentation.
