Hi Benjamin,

No, passcode on the device is not mandatory for the lock command to work. Even if you don’t have a passcode set, you can lock the device remotely.

If you are looking to set a passcode on the device, go to Policies -> New Policy -> iOS Settings -> Passcode and you can set passcode rules, and the user is forced to set the passcode.
