How will creations of business container on iOS devices help us to secure corporate data? Is this the best method for BYOD devices?

Hey, Thanks for reaching out to us.

The best method for managing BYOD iOS devices is to set up a business container.  This will control the personal and corporate data flow between the apps on the device. Thus the security and privacy will be enhanced. The organizations can control data flow between managed and unmanaged apps and accounts.

By configuring the business container, you will be able to:

  1. Block the documents from managed apps being opened in the unmanaged apps and vice versa.
  2. Block managed apps from writing to unmanaged contact accounts.
  3. Block the sharing of managed documents using AirDrop.

Please check out our help doc on setting up a business container for more info.

Cheers!

Is this only for supervised devices?

Hello Teagan,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

It is not necessary to supervise your devices to set up a business container.

What exactly does the option Open documents from unmanaged apps in managed apps do? I am able to open photos in outlook. Outlook is a managed app. I have disabled the mentioned setting. still photos can be accessed. Cross checked on iOS 14.6 and iOS 12. Same result.

If you block the option, “Open documents from unmanaged apps in managed apps”, you will not be able to access documents created using unmanaged apps in managed apps. Managed apps are those apps that Hexnode installs. However, both the unmanaged and managed apps can access the photos on the device irrespective of its management state.

Hope that resolves your query.

Cheers!!
