Ban websites based on categoriesSolved

Hello, our staff use Android devices (Galaxy M22) for work. We’ve seen that some of them are using company-owned devices to browse inappropriate websites during work hours. Is there a way to ban sites depending on categories such as hacking, pornography, and so on?

I have blocked specific websites using the web content filtering policy on hexnode.

So, do we need to block each site to solve this issue? Isn’t it a lot of work?

Thanks for reaching out to us, @omarion29.

We currently do not support blocking websites based on their categories, but it is on our to-do list. And blacklisting every inappropriate website would be an impossible task. However, there is an easy way to block such unwanted sites on Samsung Knox devices. With the Web Content Filtering policy, you can whitelist websites that are required for work purposes. Then, all the websites other than the whitelisted ones will be blocked. If you whitelist a domain, all of the subdomains will also be whitelisted. Hence, I recommend whitelisting work-related websites to make the procedure easier. Here’s what you need to do.

  1. Go to Policies > Android > Security > Web Content Filtering, and select Whitelist.
  2. Add the URLs of the websites that your employees need to access.
  3. Associate the policy with your Android devices.

Now, the user will be greeted with a page that says “No internet” if he attempts to access any websites other than the whitelisted ones.

If you have any doubts, please check out our help doc on setting up web content filtering on Android devices to know more.

Hope this helps. Do reach out if you have any further queries.

Have a nice day.
