Hexnode is gearing up to introduce two new remote actions for your macOS devices:
- Set Firmware/Recovery Lock Password.
- Clear Firmware/Recovery Lock Password.
These actions will give admins an extra layer of control and protection by preventing unauthorized users from starting up the device from macOS Recovery or from any disk other than the designated startup disk.
Intel vs Apple Silicon?
- On Macs with Intel chips, it’s called a Firmware Password.
- On Macs with Apple silicon, it’s called a Recovery Password.
Different names, same function.
With macOS Recovery, users can repair internal storage, reinstall macOS, restore from Time Machine, set security policies, transfer files, boot in safe mode, and more. By locking down access to this environment, you ensure that only trusted users can perform these critical actions.
Stay tuned for the official release note and keep an eye on What’s Cooking for more updates from Hexnode UEM!
