New addition to the Restrictions policy for iOS devices

expand collapsive

We’ve made some updates to the Restrictions policy for iOS devices following Apple’s recent extension of support to alternative app marketplaces.

An alternative app marketplace is an iOS application through which users can install apps on their devices outside of the official App Store, providing them with additional options beyond the App Store.

However, in consideration of the security and privacy requirements of corporate devices, Hexnode UEM has introduced a new option to enforce restriction on the usage of alternative app marketplaces. IT admins can use this option to prevent users from installing apps from an alternative app marketplace. The newly added restriction is Install apps from third-party app marketplaces under Policies > iOS > Advanced Restrictions.

Please note that this restriction applies only to users located in regions where alternative marketplaces are permitted (European Union) and is supported only on supervised devices running iOS 17.4 and above.

Alternatively, unchecking the Install apps restriction under iOS > Basic Restrictions will now also prevent users from installing apps from alternative marketplaces, along with those installed from the App Store.
