# How to Update Required Apps on iOS via Hexnode UEM?

Executive Summary
-----------------

Hexnode manages app updates for iOS VPP/App Store apps deployed through app groups and [Required apps](https://www.hexnode.com/mobile-device-management/help/how-to-enforce-app-installation-on-ios-devices-using-hexnode-uem/) policies by checking for available App Store updates during device scans. If an update is available, Hexnode UEM initiates the update installation on the managed device. For apps synced from Apple Business and apps sourced from App Store, the app update status can be verified from the Hexnode **Apps** tab, where the updated app details are reflected.

How app updates work for Required app policies on iOS
-----------------------------------------------------

When an iOS app (App Store/VPP) is added to an app group and that app group is assigned to a Required app policy, Hexnode UEM treats the app as mandatory for the targeted devices.

Updates are handled as follows:

- The app update must first be available in the App Store.
- The updated app information is reflected in the Hexnode app repository.
- During the next device scan, the device checks whether an update is available.
- If an update is available, Hexnode installs the update on the device.

How to verify app updates in Hexnode UEM?
-----------------------------------------

To get the updated app information reflected in Hexnode UEM under the **Apps** tab:

1. Open the Hexnode UEM portal.
2. Go to the **Apps** tab.
3. Locate the app.
4. Verify whether the updated app details are reflected for the app.

Important notes
---------------

- App updates are not installed immediately at the exact moment the update appears in the App Store. The device checks for updates during the next device scan.
- The app must be deployed through a Required app policy from Hexnode UEM to enforce installation and updates as mandatory.
- For VPP apps, ensure the app is available through Apple Business and reflected in Hexnode UEM under the **Apps** tab.
