# Integrating Slack Incoming Webhooks with Hexnode UEM

How the integration works
-------------------------

This integration connects Hexnode UEM directly to your Slack workspace. To make this work, you will use a built-in Slack feature called “Incoming Webhooks” to generate a unique URL for your chosen channel.

When a specific event occurs in Hexnode UEM—such as a device falling out of compliance or a low battery warning—Hexnode UEM sends a JSON alert payload directly to that URL. Slack then automatically post this alert as a readable chat message in your channel. This keeps your IT administrators informed in real-time, right where they already work, without needing to manually check the Hexnode UEM console.

Requirements
------------

Before configuring the integration, ensure you have:

- **Administrative access** to the Hexnode UEM portal.
- **Workspace Administrator** permissions (or sufficient privileges to create and manage apps) in your target Slack workspace.
- A designated Slack channel where you want the alert notifications to appear.

Create or select a Slack app
----------------------------

To generate a webhook URL, you first need an app within your Slack workspace to act as the messenger.

1. Navigate to the Slack API App Management portal at [https://api.slack.com/apps] (api.slack.com/apps).
2. Sign in to your Slack workspace if prompted.
3. Click **Create New App**.
4. Choose **From Scratch**.
5. Give your app a recognizable name (e.g., “Hexnode UEM Alerts”) and select the workspace where you want to develop the app.
6. Click **Create App**.

Enable Incoming Webhooks
------------------------

Next, you need to enable the feature that allows this app to receive data from Hexnode UEM.

1. On the left navigation menu under Features, select **Incoming Webhooks**.
2. Toggle the **Activate Incoming Webhooks** switch to **On**.

Select the destination channel
------------------------------

With webhooks enabled, you must authorize the app to post in a specific channel.

1. Scroll down to the bottom of the Incoming Webhooks page and click **Add New Webhook to Workspace**.
2. Slack will prompt you to select a channel. Choose the specific channel (e.g., #hexnode-uem-alerts) where you want the Hexnode UEM alerts to be delivered.
3. Click **Allow**.

Copy the Slack webhook URL
--------------------------

After authorizing the channel, Slack redirects you back to the app settings page.

1. Scroll down to the **Webhook URLs for Your Workspace** section.
2. Locate the newly generated URL.
3. Click **Copy** to save this URL to your clipboard.

Configure the webhook in Hexnode UEM
------------------------------------

Now that your Slack channel is listening, you must configure Hexnode UEM to send the alerts to that specific URL.

1. Log in to the Hexnode UEM portal.
2. Navigate to **Admin > Webhook**.
3. Click on **Add New**.
4. Enter an identifiable name for the integration (e.g., “Slack IT Alerts”).
5. Paste the copied Slack webhook URL into the URL field.
6. Select the required **Authentication method** based on your workspace’s security configuration. You can choose **No authentication, Basic authentication,** or an **Access token** (*Bearer, Basic, Custom, None*). If your setup requires Basic authentication or an Access token, enter the respective credentials or token values in the provided fields.
7. Click **Save**.

Select the triggering events
----------------------------

The webhook is now saved in Hexnode UEM, but it requires an [Alert Profile](https://www.hexnode.com/mobile-device-management/help/alert-profiles/) to dictate which events should trigger a notification to Slack.

1. Navigate to **Admin > Alert Profiles**.
2. Click **Add New** or edit an existing profile.
3. Configure the specific event conditions (e.g., Device Enrollment, Non-compliance, Low Battery).
4. Proceed to **Step 2: Actions**.
5. Locate the **Webhooks** section.
6. Select your newly created Slack webhook from the dropdown menu.
7. Click **Save**.

Test the notification and view a live event
-------------------------------------------

To verify the connection, navigate to **Admin > Webhook**, select your saved Slack webhook, and click the **Test** button. You should immediately see a test confirmation message in your Slack channel.

Once linked to an Alert Profile, console and device events will automatically format and post to Slack. For example, if a new device is enrolled into the portal, Hexnode UEM pushes a comprehensive notification directly to the channel (e.g., #hexnode-uem-alerts).

The live Slack message will clearly display:

- The App Name (e.g., MDM Webhook Testing APP)
- The event subject (e.g., Device enrolled)
- A detailed body message containing specifics like the Device ID, assigned user, enrollment timestamp, and the specific portal URL:

> Hi,
>
> The device with Device ID: 7, has been enrolled in your Hexnode UEM portal and assigned to the user Alex at 07:25 AM today, on Jul 17, 2026.
>
> Login to your admin-console.hexnodemdm.com portal for more information.
>
> Time : Jul 17, 2026 07:25:09 AM
>
> Cheers!

Reauthorize or replace an invalid Slack URL
-------------------------------------------

If your Slack webhook URL is accidentally deleted from the Slack API portal, or if the associated Slack app is uninstalled from the workspace, the Hexnode UEM alerts will immediately stop functioning.

To resolve this:

1. Return to [https://api.slack.com/apps](api.slack.com/apps) and navigate to your app.
2. Go to **Incoming Webhooks** and generate a new URL for the channel.
3. In the Hexnode UEM portal, go to **Admin > Webhook** and click on your existing Slack webhook to edit it.
4. Replace the old URL with the newly generated Slack URL and click **Save**.
