# Manage application installation on Linux from Hexnode UEM

The **Required Apps** policy on Hexnode UEM allows administrators to deploy essential apps to managed devices without user intervention. Among the different methods to manage app installation on Linux, the **Required Apps** policy specifically ensures that the app remains installed on the device. After configuring a **Required Apps** policy, assigning it to entities such as users, devices, groups, or domains, conforms the targets to the app installation specifications. If any required app is missing from the device, the device becomes [non-compliant](https://www.hexnode.com/mobile-device-management/help/how-to-configure-compliance-settings-in-hexnode-mdm/), and the app will automatically be re-installed during the next scheduled device scan.

 Note: 
Enterprise apps and store apps can be deployed to Linux devices via **Required Apps** policy.

 

Configure Required Apps for Linux devices
-----------------------------------------

To install applications using **Required Apps** policy,

1. Login to your Hexnode UEM portal and navigate to **Policies > New Policy**. Assign a suitable name (mandatory) and description for the policy.
2. Go to **Linux > App Management > Required Apps** and click on **Configure**.
3. Check the option **Remove apps from the device on policy removal** if required.
4. Click on the **+Add** button to either add an **app** or an **app group** from the local app repository.
5. Select the required apps from the list and click on **Done**.
6. Next, associate the policy with the device by navigating to the **Policy Targets** tab.
7. Select the required **Devices/Device Groups/Users/User Groups/Domains** to which the policy is to be associated.
8. Click on **Save**.

### Remove apps from device on policy removal

You can configure the apps to be removed from the device automatically upon policy removal by checking the **Remove apps from the device on policy removal** option.

Apps are removed from the device when:

1. The device is dissociated from the policy.
2. The app is removed from the **Required Apps** policy.
3. The policy is deleted.

What happens at the device end?
-------------------------------

Apps deployed via the **Required Apps** policy are silently installed on the device end, with no user intervention required.
