# How to install store apps on Windows devices

Installing and updating store apps on devices has always been a hefty job for the IT admins. Hexnode UEM supports a variety of application types and their deployment scenarios. To install a store app on your Windows devices, you can either push apps directly from the Microsoft Store or add apps to the app inventory to have them installed at a later stage.

To distribute a store app, follow the steps mentioned below.

Add store apps to the App inventory
-----------------------------------

1. Login to your Hexnode UEM portal.
2. Go to **Apps** > **+Add Apps** > **Store App**.
3. Uncheck the options **iOS**, **Android** and **macOS**.
4. Type in the name of the required application on the search box and click on **Search**.
5. Click on **Select country** to get the apps from the app store for a particular country.
6. Click **Add** to select the required application.

Now, the selected apps will be successfully added to your app inventory.

Distribute store apps to Windows devices
----------------------------------------

There are two ways by which you can distribute Store apps on your Windows devices.

- Install store apps via Action
- Install store apps via Policy

### Install applications via Actions

#### Method 1

1. Login to your Hexnode UEM portal.
2. Navigate to **Manage** tab and select the required devices.
3. Click on **Actions** and choose **Install Application**.
4. From **Local Apps**, uncheck iOS, Android, macOS, and tvOS to stop displaying the apps belonging to platforms other than **Windows**. Search and select the required apps and click ‘Done’.
    Or
    Select **Public Store** to install apps directly from the public app store and choose **Windows**. Search and select the required apps and click ‘Done’.

#### Method 2

1. Login to your Hexnode UEM portal.
2. Navigate to **Manage** tab and click on the required device.
    This will take you to the corresponding device summary page.
3. Click on **Actions** > **Install Application**.
4. From **Local Apps**, search and select the required apps and Click ‘Done’.
    Or
    Select **Public Store** to install apps directly from the public app store. Search and select the required apps and Click ‘Done’.

### Install applications via Policy

You can install store apps on your Windows devices using Required Apps policy.

1. Login to your Hexnode UEM portal.
2. Navigate to **Policies** tab. Click on **New Policy** to create a new one or click on any policy to edit an existing one. Enter the *Policy Name* and *Description* in the provided fields, if you are creating a new policy.
3. Go to **Windows** > **App Management** > **Required Apps** > **Configure**.
4. Click on **+Add**, choose either **Add App** or [**Add Group**](https://www.hexnode.com/mobile-device-management/help/how-to-configure-app-groups-using-hexnode-mdm/#configure-an-app-group).
5. On selecting Add App, Search and select the required apps from **Local Apps** and click ‘Done’.
    
    Or
    Select **Public Store** to install apps directly from the public app store. Search and select the required apps and click ‘Done’. On selecting Add Group,
    
    Search and select the required app groups and click **Done**.
6. Navigate to **Policy Targets**, and click on *Devices, Device Groups, Users, User Groups* or *Domains*. Select the target entities.
7. Click OK > Save.

What happens at the device end?
-------------------------------

Either you install the app via action or policy, the app installation proceeds silently in the background. The app can be easily accessed from the *Recently added* section of the Start menu.
