# How to configure Hexnode app settings for Windows devices?

**Hexnode App Settings** is a centralized configuration suite in the Hexnode UEM console used to enforce application-level restrictions and manage behaviors for essential Hexnode apps on Windows devices.

The Strategic Value of Hexnode App Settings
--------------------------------------------

Implementing app-level settings ensures that essential enterprise tools remain functional and tamper-proof. By centralizing these configurations, organizations can maintain consistent device compliance, streamline remote support workflows, and prevent unauthorized modifications to the local management environment.

5. Click **Associate.**

Safeguarding Hexnode Remote Assist from Removal
------------------------------------------------

When the **Restrict users from uninstalling Hexnode Remote Assist App** option is enabled, the Remote Assist app cannot be removed directly from the device.

When this feature is enabled, the following restrictions apply:

- **Admin restrictions:** Attempts to uninstall the app are blocked for all users, including those with admin rights.
- **Hidden from Device Settings:** The app will also not be listed under **Device Settings → Apps**, preventing removal from there.

- **File access limitations:** The folder path **C:\hexnode\hexnode remote view\current** is inaccessible, preventing tampering with installation files.

Frequently Asked Questions
--------------------------

#### 1. Does the Hexnode App Settings policy protect the Hexnode UEM Agent app from uninstallation, or only the Remote Assist app?

The admin should note that the current “Hexnode App Settings” configuration specifically targets the **Remote Assist** component. To prevent the removal of the primary Hexnode UEM Agent, the admin should refer to the “Manual MDM administration removal” option under the Restrictions policy.

Troubleshooting
---------------

#### 1. The “Uninstall” option is still visible or active for the Remote Assist app in the device settings.

**Probable Cause:**

The device has not yet successfully synced with the Hexnode portal to acknowledge the new customization settings, or the Windows **“Apps & Features”** cache has not refreshed to reflect the new configuration.

**Solution:**

Initiate a **“Scan Device”** action from the **Manage** tab in the Hexnode UEM portal. If the option remains available, restart the device to ensure the Hexnode background service re-initializes and enforces the uninstallation block.

Best Practices
--------------

- **Enable Automatic Updates alongside Restrictions:** The admin should always pair uninstallation restrictions with the **“Update Hexnode Remote Assist app on Windows Devices”** setting in the **Admin** tab. This ensures that while the user cannot remove the app, it also remains on the most secure and functional version.
- **Use for High-Compliance Environments:** The admin should prioritize this policy for devices used by remote contractors or in public-facing kiosks. Preventing the removal of Remote Assist ensures that the IT team never loses the ability to visually verify device status or assist the user during a lockout.
