# How to Delete User, Device Group or User Group?

Hexnode UEM allows administrators to remove obsolete users, device groups, or user groups to release applied policies and streamline organizational management through centralized remote commands.

**Deleting a User**
-------------------

**Definition:** Deleting a user removes their profile from the Hexnode console, requiring an admin to either disenroll their associated devices or reassign them to a different user.

### **Prerequisites and Constraints**

- **Local Users Only:** Only local users can be deleted from the portal.
- **Restricted Deletions:** You cannot delete a **Default User**, a user synced from **Directory Services**, or a user assigned to a **DEP device**.

### **Steps to Delete a User**

1. Navigate to the **Manage** tab.
2. Select **Users** from the left-hand menu.
3. Check the box next to the users you wish to remove.
4. From the **Actions** dropdown, select **Edit > Delete user(s)**.
5. Choose one of the following actions for associated devices:
    - **Disenroll device:** Removes all policies and apps. The device will no longer be managed by Hexnode UEM.
    - **Assign to a new user:** Deletes current user-specific configurations and applies those of the newly specified user.

**Deleting User Groups**
------------------------

**Definition:** Deleting a user group removes the collective grouping of users, subsequently withdrawing any policies specifically assigned to that group while maintaining individual user-level policies.

### **Prerequisites**

- **Local Groups Only:** Only local user groups can be deleted.

### **Steps to Delete a User Group**

1. Navigate to the **Manage** tab.
2. Select **User Groups**.
3. Select the user groups targeted for deletion.
4. From the **Actions** dropdown, select **Group & Domains > Delete group**.

**Deleting Device Groups**
--------------------------

**Definition:** Deleting a device group removes the logical grouping of hardware entities, resulting in the removal of group-associated policies without affecting policies bound directly to individual devices.

### **Steps to Delete a Device Group**

1. Navigate to the **Manage** tab.
2. Select **Device Groups**.
3. Check the device groups you intend to delete.
4. From the **Actions** dropdown, select **Group & Domains > Delete group**.

-------------------------------------

#### **Can a device be deleted from the User list?**

No. Deleting a user manages the user profile and its association. To remove a device entirely, it must be deleted from the device list, and only if it is a pre-approved device.

#### **What happens to policies when a group is deleted?**

All policies associated specifically with the user or device group are removed. However, any policies bound directly to the individual user or device remain intact.

#### **Can users imported from Active Directory be deleted?**

No. Only local users created within the Hexnode console can be deleted using this method. Directory-synced users must be managed through their respective directory services.
