Having an account at Apple Deployment Programs (ADP) allows you to access both the Device Enrollment Program (DEP) as well as Volume Purchase Program (VPP). If you have already registered for VPP, then a new account need not be created for DEP. It is possible to directly log in to DEP. Both DEP and VPP are available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States.
Before You Start
Before starting to enroll devices to DEP, make sure you have met these primary requirements:
- A device ordered from Apple or purchased from an authorized dealer on or after 1 March 2011, running at least iOS 7.0.4 or Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks, and haven’t enrolled with DEP previously. A device that was removed from DEP before cannot be added back.
- An MDM server supporting iOS or Mac OS X devices, as per the requirement.
The account needs to be created with an Email ID that is associated with the business, not the personal Email address. Email ID used to enroll for deployment program cannot be used to access services like App Store. Now, the agent (the one who creates the account) is needed to enable two-step verification. A recovery key will be provided by Apple that can be used if you forget your password or lose access to your ADP account in any other ways. After this step, the agent should provide a verification account, business (or institution) information, and Apple Customer Number or DEP Reseller ID.
Step 1: Create a Verification Account
This is the Apple account that belongs to one who can choose whether the company (or institution) can be enrolled by you to the DEP. This account holder is the one responsible for adding you as an administrator.
Step 2: Provide Business Information
Business information is regarding the address of the business (including the ZIP code) as well as the D-U-N-S number. D-U-N-S number was founded by Dun & Bradstreet and is a unique 9-digit number (for example, 80-480-0217). Data Universal Numbering System (D-U-N-S) number is not unique for an entire organization, but will be unique for each branch of the organization. D-U-N-S numbers look similar for related businesses such as the headquarters and the branches (such as 03-563-9413, 03-563-9603 and 03-563-9645). These are the information needed to be provided to obtain a D-U-N-S number:
- Legal name
- Headquarters name as well as the address of the headquarters.
- Any name by which the business can be identified.
- Address of the branch (or headquarters) which needs D-U-N-S number.
- Mailing address (if away from the address specified just above or that of the headquarters).
- Contact number.
- Number of employees at the branch (or headquarters) which needs a D-U-N-S number.
- Whether the business is home-based.
Step 3: Provide Apple Customer Number or DEP Reseller ID
When devices are purchased directly from Apple, then an account number is obtained, which needs to be provided for enrolling such devices to DEP. There may be multiple Apple customer numbers for the same organization, all of which should be provided in DEP portal. Alternatively, DEP Reseller ID is to be provided if the device is purchased from an authorized reseller. The reseller ID of every reseller from which the device is purchased should be provided.
When the devices are purchased from an authorized dealer, then the DEP reseller ID isn’t enough. After you provide the reseller ID or Apple customer number, Apple reviews the application. Once the review is complete and you are enrolled in the program, you will be given a DEP customer ID. This customer ID is to be given to the reseller for enrolling devices in Apple’s Device Enrollment Program, if you provided Reseller ID for enrollment in Deployment Programs. This ID is used by the reseller to provide details about the device. When devices are enrolled with Device Enrollment Program, you are officially registered with DEP and can avail all of DEP’s features.
Apple verifies the information provided and informs you when the process is complete. Apple contacts you if any additional information is required.
Step 4: Sign Up For A D-U-N-S Number
Obtaining a D-U-N-S number is free of cost unless the process is expedited. The section below will give an idea about D-U-N-S number.
Expedited D-U-N-S number can be obtained within 5 days after the request. There are two ways by which an expedited D-U-N-S number can be obtained:
Small Business Starter is charged at $599. Additional features such as D&B business credit file, online business directory profile, keywords, D&B credibility badge and social media feeds are packed with this package. The other one, DUNSFile is charged at $299 and is packed with D&B business credit file and online business directory profile as additional features.
As said earlier, D-U-N-S number is absolutely free of cost unless the process is expedited. However, D-U-N-S numbers are given free of cost to those businesses required to register with US government for contracts or grants, even if the process is expedited.
